Engagement sessions...

What to wear to an engagement session?. I get asked this all the time! Really, the main advice I can give to get more out of your engagement session is to have fun with it! Don’t settle for the matching jeans and tops look. Let your personality shine! Get your make-up and hair done, and bring several outfits with accessories. Realistically, we will only shoot three to four outfits in the time we have, but options are always good. Dressing up is always fun and accessories can really make a difference – whether it be jewelry, different shoes, scarves, or flowers for your hair . Feel free to bring props! Nothing too overboard or anything, but if you serenade your sweetheart with a guitar every night, we could incorporate it in a few shots. I’m love when people infuse their personalities into the engagement session!
Here's a few tips for engagement portrait sessions just in case you need a little extra help..

1. Shoes show!
Your whole body will show, so remember to wear nice/cute/colorful/clean shoes.
2. Dress it up!
Not to sound like your mother on your school picture day, but try to avoid t-shirts and flip flops. If you would like to wear jeans, make sure they are clean and paired with a nice shirt. Layer for differrnte looks.
3. Try a skirt or dress!
It's only a for a few hours and trust me, you will look extra nice. And you will love the portriats!
4. Add color!
Don't be afraid of a little color pop. A lot of photographers might say to wear neutral tones, but when did a fun tie or a red coat hurt anyone? Tans and grays can look drab against a South Dakota landscape, and who wants to look drab? Have fun with it!
5. Be you!
Whether you have a preppy style or a vintage look, show it off. Where what is you and shows your personality.
Bonus tip: bring props! bring your dog, a cool hat, a polka dot umbrella--let's have fun!

Rachel's Senior Pictures

Last summer I travled to Michigan for a photography seminar in Detroit. While I was there I took some Senior Pictures for kids I grew up babysitting... it makes you feel old :) Here are Rachel's Senior Pictures. We had a great time traveling all over Lowell finding some unique backgrounds for some really fun portraits. Hope you enjoy!

Photo Hike

With the sun shinning and the warm weather I went on my first “photo hike” of the spring this afternoon. Ever since college I have loved to go on what I call photo hikes. It started with my dad’s old Pentex ME Super (a fully manual camera). I would head out and walk until I shot a roll of 36 off and then I would turn around and head home. I would do this in college well.. for class but also to clear my head. It turned out to be good exercise for my body and my photographic eye. This afternoon was no exception. At first I headed out to Richmond to find that it was still winter there. With snow knee deep all I found were signs of winter to photograph. A little discouraged I headed back to town. On my way into town I made a pit stop at Wylie. I found a few signs of spring… Migratory geese, and this cute pair of love birds. My faith in spring was renewed. Hopefully we will all be out in no time enjoying spring!
